AutoNation Launches Free Car Care Clinics for Young Drivers in Dallas-Fort Worth

AutoNation, Inc. is taking a proactive step towards enhancing road safety for young drivers in the Dallas-Fort Worth area by offering free AutoNation Car Care Clinics. These clinics, scheduled throughout August and September, aim to equip young drivers with essential vehicle maintenance skills. This initiative comes in response to a concerning survey finding that 42% of parents reported their 15- to 22-year-olds ignored dashboard warning indicators for a week or more, with 10% admitting these warnings were overlooked for three or more months.

The survey, conducted by Atomik Research, revealed that 92% of parents believe routine maintenance is crucial for vehicle safety. Despite this belief, 14% of parents acknowledged it had been over six months since their young driver's vehicle had a full safety inspection, and 22% were unsure when the last comprehensive inspection occurred. Nearly half of the parents expressed concerns about the condition of critical vehicle components like brakes and tires.

AutoNation's Car Care Clinics are designed to bridge this knowledge gap. Participants will receive hands-on tips from expert technicians on various aspects of vehicle maintenance, including checking tire pressure, understanding dashboard warning lights, jumpstarting a battery, changing a flat tire, and checking vehicle fluids. Additionally, the clinics will cover safety items to keep in a car for emergencies. The initiative also includes driver safety education sessions led by local community partners, focusing on topics such as distracted and impaired driving, proper driving positioning, seatbelt usage, and how to handle traffic stops or field sobriety tests.

Parents or guardians are required to attend the clinics with their teens or young adults, and registration is mandatory. AutoNation also offers complimentary multi-point inspections, tire pressure adjustments, and fluid top-offs by factory-trained technicians. The survey, which included 1,004 U.S. parents of driving-age children, underscores the urgent need for educational initiatives like the AutoNation Car Care Clinics. With a margin of error of +/- 3 percentage points and a 95% confidence level, the findings highlight a critical area for improvement in young driver education and vehicle maintenance practices.
