The Baltimore Community Foundation has selected 11 community leaders for its 2025 Neighborhood Spotlight Awards, providing $5,000 grants to support their neighborhood transformation work across food security, housing justice, youth development, and historical preservation initiatives.

The Baltimore Community Foundation has announced the winners of its 2025 Neighborhood Spotlight Awards, recognizing 11 grassroots leaders who are driving positive change in Baltimore neighborhoods. These awards celebrate unsung heroes including block captains, community organizers, artists, and advocates working to improve their communities through various initiatives. Each winner will receive a $5,000 grant to direct to any Baltimore-area nonprofit organization of their choice and will be honored at the annual State of BCF event on October 8, 2025.
BCF's Vice President of Community Impact, Dr. Crystal Harden-Lindsey, emphasized that resident leadership forms the foundation of stronger neighborhoods. The awards program, supported by BCF's 50th Anniversary Neighborhoods grant program, specifically honors individuals demonstrating initiative, intergenerational leadership, and deep commitment to community vibrancy across Baltimore City and Baltimore County.
Among the honorees is Bria Evans of Requity, who expanded culinary programs across four Baltimore high schools and launched a youth-powered catering business while addressing food insecurity through her We All Eat Wednesdays program, which has provided over 3,000 free meals to neighbors. Arrealia Gavins co-created the Realia Institute, a home-based community hub in McElderry Park offering free tutoring, youth mentoring, and family support services while hosting seasonal events like toy drives and family meals.
Janette Graham founded No Struggle, No Success, Inc. to support returning citizens, having helped more than 800 individuals transition back into the community through housing, job placement, and case management services while advocating for judicial reform. Aaron Maybin, through The Aaron Maybin Foundation and Level Up Leadership Academy, provides weekly mentorship and wellness programming for hundreds of youth, creating safe spaces for healing from trauma related to violence and poverty.
Nneka N'namdi of Fight Blight Bmore combines housing justice with youth empowerment, operating the Hack Hub community space while helping families avoid housing loss through tax sales and clearing substantial housing-related debt. Michael Richardson Sr. serves as the heart of Station North through Red Shed Village and the Farm to Stoop market, organizing weekly gatherings and ensuring community safety while leading a grassroots congregation.
Inez Robb has advocated for safe housing for over 30 years, leading efforts that reduced childhood lead exposure in Baltimore by 99% while organizing resiliency hubs in Sandtown-Winchester that connect residents with housing rehabilitation and support services. Carla Schroyer of Community Assistance Network expanded pantry services through CAN Stands Ready following the Key Bridge disaster, serving over 3,000 households while implementing special access for non-English speaking communities.
Keith Taylor founded the Sparrows Point and North Point Historical Society, preserving Southeast Baltimore County's industrial heritage through projects like the Beacon of Hope that transformed century-old steel materials into solar-powered lampposts surrounded by pollinator gardens. Greta Willis runs weekly food pantries through the Pillar Worship Center, providing over 2,000 meals since 2023 while organizing annual Back-to-School festivals and Stop the Violence cookouts in memory of her son.
The Neighborhood Spotlight Awards program launched in 2022 as part of BCF's enhanced neighborhood-based grantmaking. For more information about the awards and the foundation's community work, visit https://bcf.org/spotlight/.
