Canadian Sculptor Showcases Rare Jade Falcon at Saudi International Exhibition

Canadian sculptor Tom Hjortholfson is presenting his work for the first time in Saudi Arabia at the Saudi International Falconry and Hunting Exhibition 2025, featuring a collection that highlights the elegance of falcons through detailed craftsmanship. His participation represents an important milestone in his artistic career, driven by a lifelong passion for wildlife. Hjortholfson's connection to falconry began when fellow Canadian artist John Logon invited him to sculpt a falcon named "Nona," an experience that later led to collaboration with the Saudi Falcons Club and inclusion in this prestigious international event.

Among the displayed works is a rare falcon sculpture carved from Canadian jade, valued at SR300,000. Weighing over 45 kilograms, the piece includes intricate bronze detailing and agate-inlaid eyes. Another sculpture, made from solid bronze with an ivory-white finish, is valued at SR150,000. Each artwork is limited to 12 editions worldwide, ensuring exclusivity and collectibility. Hjortholfson noted that visitors have shown strong appreciation for these high-value pieces, despite their luxurious materials, with the expectation that true collectors will recognize their artistic and emotional significance.

The exhibition, organized by the Saudi Falcons Club, features artisan pavilions showcasing handcrafted works and traditional pieces inspired by Saudi Arabia's landscapes, wildlife, and falconry heritage. The event continues through Oct. 11 at the Riyadh Exhibition and Convention Center in Malham, north of the capital, bringing together more than 1,300 exhibitors and brands from 45 countries. This gathering underscores Saudi Arabia's commitment to preserving cultural heritage while fostering innovation, culture, and international exchange through platforms like the Saudi International Falconry and Hunting Exhibition.
