CAVA Opens First Downtown Detroit Location as Part of National Expansion Strategy

CAVA has opened its first downtown Detroit restaurant at 636 Woodward Avenue, marking the Mediterranean fast-casual brand's second location in Michigan and expanding its national footprint to 28 states and the District of Columbia. The 3,000-square-foot restaurant features indoor dining and digital order capabilities, operating daily from 10:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. This opening follows the successful launch of CAVA's first Michigan restaurant in Canton earlier this summer, signaling the company's strategic expansion across the Midwest region.

The Detroit location introduces CAVA's customizable Mediterranean menu, which offers over 17 billion combination possibilities through chef-curated bowls, pitas, dips, and house-made juices. Recently, the chain added Chicken Shawarma as a limited-time protein option nationwide, enhancing its flavor profile that blends Mediterranean hospitality with bold, health-focused cuisine. Jeff Gaul, Chief Development Officer of CAVA, expressed enthusiasm about bringing the brand's mission of heart, health, and humanity to Detroit's culinary landscape, noting the positive reception from Michigan communities.

CAVA maintained its tradition of community engagement by hosting a pre-opening Community Day event that raised funds for Food Rescue US – Detroit, a nonprofit organization dedicated to reducing food waste and improving food access. Since 2019, this companywide program has generated over $1 million in donations and food contributions toward addressing food insecurity. The brand also implemented its national food donation initiative during the restaurant's training period, distributing fresh meals to local community members as part of its commitment to reducing food waste during expansion.

The new Detroit restaurant will employ 25-40 local staff members, offering competitive compensation packages that include healthcare benefits, paid time off, free meals, and mental health support through the company's Employee Assistance Program.
