The Colorado Judicial Institute is convening a thought leadership forum to address the immediate challenges and opportunities artificial intelligence presents to the legal community, focusing on ethics, bias, and practical implementation.

The Colorado Judicial Institute (CJI), Colorado's independent, nonpartisan nonprofit dedicated to promoting excellence, equity, impartiality, and public trust in the state's courts, announced it will host a Thought Leadership Forum addressing one of the most pressing issues facing the legal profession: the influence of artificial intelligence. The forum, titled "AI Today: What the Legal Community Needs to Know Right Now," is scheduled for November 6 and will bring together judges and legal experts to explore how AI is reshaping the practice of law, from courtroom ethics to law firm innovation.
CJI Board Chair Thor Nelson emphasized the urgency of the topic, stating that AI is no longer a future trend but is already testing the boundaries of ethics, professionalism, and trust in courts. The forum aims to provide Colorado's legal community with the insights needed to navigate the risks and seize the opportunities that AI presents. The event will be held at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP's Denver office located at 1900 Lawrence Street, with registration and networking from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m., followed by the forum from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m.
The panel will feature three distinguished legal experts who will address different facets of AI's integration into the legal field. Hon. Lino Lipinsky of the Colorado Court of Appeals will discuss "Ethics Rules & AI," focusing on how the Colorado Rules of Professional Conduct govern attorneys' use of generative AI, including real-world cases of misuse and their consequences. Hon. Maritza Dominguez Braswell from the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado will examine "AI & the Law Today," analyzing AI's societal and legal impacts, including issues of bias, accuracy, and the distinction between what AI can do versus what it should do in legal contexts.
Katina Banks, Esq., of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP will explore "AI in Practice," detailing how law firms are integrating AI into client service and the frameworks necessary for responsible adoption. The forum offers 2 CLE credits, comprising 0.8 ethics credits and 1.2 general credits, providing valuable continuing education for legal professionals. Registration is available through CJI's website, with fees set at $100 for CJI members and $125 for non-members. The event is sponsored by Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP and Maverick Public Relations, highlighting the legal community's collaborative effort to address AI's transformative impact on the profession.
