Feeding South Florida initiates Hunger Action Month this September to address food insecurity in the region through community engagement and fundraising.

Feeding South Florida® is launching Hunger Action Month this September to combat food insecurity in Palm Beach, Broward, Miami-Dade, and Monroe counties. The initiative, part of a nationwide effort by Feeding America®, aims to raise awareness and inspire action against hunger, with this year's theme being 'Power in Every Action.' With over 1.2 million food-insecure individuals in South Florida, the campaign seeks to provide immediate access to nutritious food and support through various activities, including an online auction, 'Hunger Heroes' t-shirt sales, and a dollar-for-dollar donation match up to $25,000.
Activities throughout the month encourage community participation, such as starting fund or food drives, dining at participating restaurants, and volunteering at Feeding South Florida’s warehouses or Community Kitchen. Highlights include Hunger Action Day on Sept. 9, where the community is urged to 'Go Orange,' and the 2025 Outrun Hunger 5K in Palm Beach County on Sept. 20. Landmark buildings have previously participated by illuminating in orange to show support.
Paco Vélez, president and CEO of Feeding South Florida, emphasizes the importance of community collaboration in addressing food insecurity. The initiative not only raises awareness but also crucial funds, with every dollar donated providing approximately four meals to families in need.
