NYCxDesign 2025's landmark exhibition 'Fractured Horizons' showcased over 100 works by 72 artists from 9 countries, exploring the intersection of cultural identity, artistic traditions, and digital innovation through design and technology.

The NYCxDesign Festival 2025 concluded its groundbreaking international exhibition 'Fractured Horizons: The Future of Heritage & Innovation', demonstrating the powerful convergence of cultural expression and technological advancement. The weeklong summit attracted over 50,000 online and onsite visitors, highlighting the global appetite for cross-cultural design dialogues.
Organized by VSDesign and hosted by PI Art Center, the exhibition featured a curated selection of 100+ artworks from 72 artists representing nine countries, including the United States, United Kingdom, China, South Korea, Japan, and Singapore. The carefully juried collection spanned three categories: Renowned Artists, Professional Artists, and New Talent, offering a comprehensive view of contemporary design's evolving landscape.
The exhibition's core mission centered on reimagining artistic traditions within the digital age, particularly emphasizing the expanding global reach of Chinese creativity and cultural identity. Works ranged from AI-generated art and interactive installations to sustainable design and immersive scenography, challenging traditional boundaries between technological innovation and cultural heritage.
A rigorous six-month preparation phase preceded the exhibition, which began with a global open call attracting over 500 submissions from 21 countries. The curatorial team, including distinguished artists Dominic Terlizzi, Qin Zhao, Jiayuan Wang, and Yiwei Lin, selected works that provocatively questioned the relationship between industrial history and urban transformation.
The opening ceremony drew an impressive array of diplomats, scholars, artists, and cultural leaders, including representatives from the Cultural Affairs Office of the Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in New York. Notable speakers and virtual contributors included Eric Moed, Guangming Zheng, Renjie Lu, and Qin Zhao, underscoring the exhibition's international significance.
By bridging technological innovation with cultural storytelling, 'Fractured Horizons' offered a nuanced exploration of how emerging technologies can preserve, reinterpret, and celebrate diverse artistic traditions. The exhibition demonstrated that design is not merely about aesthetic creation, but a dynamic platform for global dialogue and understanding.
