Global Council for Tolerance and Peace Urges De-escalation Between Cambodia and Thailand

The Global Council for Tolerance and Peace (GCTP), under the leadership of H.E. Ahmed Aljarwan, has issued a statement urging Cambodia and Thailand to engage in immediate de-escalation and diplomatic dialogue. The call aims to prevent actions that could heighten tensions or provoke confrontation, thereby safeguarding regional stability and the well-being of border communities.

The GCTP emphasizes the importance of rebuilding trust through dialogue, suggesting the resumption and strengthening of diplomatic and parliamentary communication channels. This approach is intended to address concerns in good faith and foster a conducive environment for peace.

Furthermore, the council highlights the need to normalize cross-border trade to restore economic confidence and cooperation. Facilitating trade and customs operations is seen as vital for supporting local livelihoods and ensuring the prosperity of the region.

In its statement, the GCTP also calls for all actions to comply with existing treaties, ASEAN commitments, and peaceful dispute resolution mechanisms. The council reaffirms its support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of both nations, urging stakeholders to engage in constructive efforts toward achieving lasting peace.
