Grubhub Community Fund Awards $2 Million to Advance Food Security and Economic Resiliency

The American Heart Association has been awarded a $2 million grant from the Grubhub Community Fund to support critical initiatives addressing food security, technological innovation, and economic resiliency in two major urban centers. This strategic investment aims to tackle significant social drivers of health that can dramatically impact community well-being and life expectancy.

The funding will support up to 12 organizations working to overcome barriers to high-quality healthcare, food access, and economic opportunity. Four initial organizations have already been selected for support, each presenting innovative solutions to community challenges.

CareYaya, a North Carolina-based platform, will help address caregiver shortages by connecting families with pre-health students for affordable in-home care. Farm Generations Corporation will leverage technology to support agricultural sustainability and direct consumer connections through its SNAP-eligible e-commerce platform GrownBy.

Nectar, based in Chicago, will focus on food security by delivering food as medicine through partnerships with charitable organizations. RiseKit will provide a software platform designed to help untapped talent find employment and improve economic opportunities through community-based job training programs.

Dr. Regina Benjamin, former U.S. Surgeon General and chair of the Social Impact Funds Impact Investment Committee, emphasized the transformative potential of this funding. By targeting the fundamental social conditions that influence health outcomes, the initiative seeks to create meaningful, long-term community impact.

The selection process prioritizes organizations with evidence-based, innovative approaches that align with the American Heart Association's mission of achieving health equity. Since its launch in 2018, the Social Impact Funds have already provided $21.5 million in support to over 130 local enterprises, positively affecting nearly 5 million people.

This strategic investment highlights a growing recognition that health is determined not just by medical interventions, but by broader social and economic factors. By supporting organizations that address these root causes, the Grubhub Community Fund and the American Heart Association are working to create more equitable, resilient communities in New York City and Chicago.
