Industry Veterans Honored for Exceptional Leadership and Safety Contributions

The Chlorine Institute (CI) has honored two distinguished professionals for their exceptional contributions to the chlor-alkali industry, underscoring the critical importance of safety and leadership in industrial operations. Manuel 'Manny' Correia of Kuehne Chemical Company and John Christie of ERCO Worldwide were recognized for their outstanding service and commitment to industry excellence.

Correia received the prestigious Peter M. Mayo Award, an honor established in 2005 to recognize individuals who demonstrate exceptional leadership in the chlor-alkali sector. With over two decades of experience, Correia has been a pivotal figure in advancing safety and emergency preparedness initiatives. His involvement with the Emergency Preparedness and Product Stewardship Issue Teams, coupled with his leadership in annual emergency response team training, exemplifies the industry's commitment to protecting workers and communities.

The award, named after a revered industry leader, commemorates Peter M. Mayo's legacy of safety advocacy and professional dedication. CI Board Chair John Eskew emphasized that Correia embodies the organization's core values of safety, member synergy, respect, diversity, and integrity.

Simultaneously, Christie was named an Honorary Member, a distinction bestowed upon only 15 individuals in the Institute's 101-year history. Throughout his 43-year career at ERCO Worldwide, Christie has made significant contributions to the industry through leadership roles on the CI Board and active participation in various committees and initiatives.
