The Jaime & Blanca Jarrín Foundation (JBJF), in partnership with long-time supporter Los Defensores, awarded over $50,000 in scholarships to underserved college students pursuing careers in law and journalism at the annual Wine Night at the Ravine fundraising gala. This initiative addresses the significant underrepresentation of Latino professionals in both legal and journalism fields, where diverse voices are critically needed to ensure equitable representation and storytelling.

With this year's theme "The Power of Believing," the evening centered on the profound impact of affirmation, mentorship, and cultural pride in the lives of underserved Latino students. The event honored six-time MLB All-Star Nomar Garciaparra and renowned Dodgers photographer Jon Soohoo, whose work was showcased as part of the evening's celebration of cultural and community contributions. Since its inception, JBJF has raised over $225,000 in scholarship funds and remains committed to uplifting the next generation of Latino leaders.

This year's scholarship recipients included graduate students Jose Leon Sandoval and Elianet Romero, each receiving $12,500 for law school, and five undergraduate students receiving $5,000 each for various majors including communications, aerospace engineering, history, and business administration. The financial support is part of a broader mission to break down barriers and tackle educational disparities facing Latino students.

As the fiscal corporate sponsor of JBJF, Los Defensores continues its six-year partnership through their Siempre Contigo community initiative, which embodies the company's commitment to family-first values and Latino empowerment. Miriam Serrano, Vice President of Integrated Marketing and Community Relations at Los Defensores, emphasized the personal significance of this mission as a first-generation college graduate who has experienced firsthand the transformative power of education.

The foundation's work extends beyond financial assistance, providing mentorship programs that empower underserved students to reach their full potential. Jaime Jarrín, MLB Hall of Fame broadcaster and JBJF co-founder, stated that the support offered through these scholarships sends a message to youth that their dreams matter and their stories are valued. The growing alumni network and strong community partnerships demonstrate the foundation's lasting impact on creating pathways for underserved students in critical fields where Latino representation remains disproportionately low.
