Meals On Wheels Atlanta Golf Classic Raises $130,000 for Senior Nutrition Programs

The 25th Annual Golf Classic hosted by Meals On Wheels Atlanta at TPC Sugarloaf generated $130,000 in critical funding that will support the delivery of more than 89,000 meals to homebound seniors throughout the Atlanta area. This milestone anniversary event attracted over 100 golfers and corporate partners who participated in championship play, on-course contests, and an awards reception while supporting neighbors who depend on the organization for lifesaving meals, pet food, and essential wellness checks.

Charlene Crusoe-Ingram, CEO of Meals On Wheels Atlanta, emphasized the broader impact of these donations, noting that each meal delivery represents more than just nutrition. The generosity displayed at the tournament ensures that thousands of nourishing meals reach seniors who rely on the organization, with each delivery serving as a caring connection that reminds isolated neighbors they are not alone in their struggles.

Tournament Director Jamie Martin highlighted the enthusiastic participation from golfers and sponsors, stating that the energy from the first tee shot to the final putt translated directly into meals and hope for senior community members. The event's success was made possible through substantial support from corporate sponsors including Sysco, Southern Company, and Publix, along with numerous other local and regional businesses committed to addressing senior hunger.

The funds raised come at a crucial time for an organization that depends heavily on private donations, with 97% of its annual funding coming from community support. Meals On Wheels Atlanta has evolved significantly since its founding in 1965, growing from a small soup kitchen into an organization that has delivered over six million lifesaving meals while expanding services to include home repair assistance, emergency food pantries, and specialized pet food provisions that allow seniors to remain with their animal companions.

The organization has developed innovative social enterprise models to sustain its mission, including 1705WEST event space and Purposeful Gourmet Foods, with all proceeds directed toward meal programs. This golf tournament represents one of many fundraising initiatives that enable the continuation of essential services for vulnerable seniors facing both nutritional challenges and social isolation in the Atlanta community.
