Jarvis Landry partnered with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Broward County to distribute over 500 pairs of sneakers to children, emphasizing the importance of confidence and preparation for the new school year.

Hundreds of children in Broward County started their school year on a positive note thanks to the efforts of NFL star Jarvis Landry and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Broward County. During the annual 'Lace Up for Learning' event, more than 500 children received brand-new sneakers, a gesture aimed at boosting their self-esteem and readiness for the academic year ahead. Landry, through his foundation, The Impact Group Project, played a pivotal role in the event, not only by sponsoring the hydration station but also by personally engaging with the children and their families.
The event, held at Snyder Park in Fort Lauderdale, was more than just a sneaker giveaway. It was a day filled with joy, activities, and community support. Families enjoyed field games, music, and a barbeque sponsored by Comcast. Additionally, over 300 students received fully stocked school supply kits, courtesy of the BBX Capital Foundation. The day also offered complimentary haircuts and hair braiding, making it a comprehensive effort to ensure children felt confident and supported as they headed back to school.
Malena Mendez, President and CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Broward County, highlighted the significance of the event, stating, 'Lace Up for Learning is more than just about the sneakers. It’s about ensuring every child starts the school year feeling confident, prepared and supported because that’s when real success begins.' The initiative reflects the organization's longstanding commitment to empowering youth through mentoring and support.
The 'Lace Up for Learning' event was made possible through the collaboration of various sponsors, including Ana G. Mendez University, Good Greek Moving and Storage, and Miller Construction, among others. This event is a testament to the community's collective effort to make a difference in the lives of children, providing them with the tools and confidence needed to succeed in school and beyond.
