Palm Beach Symphony to Host Panel on Arts' Impact on Physical and Mental Wellness

Tickets are now available for Palm Beach Symphony's annual Music, Maestros & Masters panel discussion exploring how the arts fuel body, mind and soul. The event will take place on November 13 from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at Florida Atlantic University's Elinor Bernon Rosenthal Lifelong Learning Complex in Jupiter, featuring leading voices from music, science, health and athletic fields. This intimate evening promises to deliver thought-provoking insights into how artistic engagement, particularly music, enhances physical performance capabilities, supports cognitive vitality and promotes emotional wellness.

The expert panel includes Shawn Berry, founder and artistic director of Young Singers of the Palm Beaches; Kathleen L. Davenport, M.D., a spine and sports medicine physiatrist at Hospital for Special Surgery; and Domingo Pagliuca, Latin Grammy Award-winning trombonist who serves as Palm Beach Symphony principal trombonist. Kevin Wilt, Ph.D., Department of Music Chair at FAU's Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts & Letters, will moderate the discussion. The panel brings together diverse perspectives on how artistic practices intersect with human performance across multiple domains.

Dr. Davenport brings specialized expertise in sports, performing arts and dance medicine, having completed her spine and sports fellowship at HSS in New York City. Her research focuses on optimizing patient wellness through innovative care approaches, and she serves as Company Physician for Miami City Ballet while holding board positions with the International Association for Dance Medicine and Science. Berry's work with Young Singers of the Palm Beaches demonstrates how musical training develops life skills in children, with his organization growing to include seven choirs and over 350 singers in its core program. The organization provides children with artistic excellence environments where they develop teamwork, leadership skills and serve as community ambassadors.

Pagliuca's Latin Grammy recognition and professional work with Boston Brass, Palm Beach Symphony and Florida Grand Opera Orchestra represents the high-level musical excellence that will be discussed during the panel. His versatility across musical genres illustrates the broad applicability of artistic skills to various performance contexts. The evening will include live musical vignettes performed by Palm Beach Symphony musicians, FAU faculty and singers from Young Singers of the Palm Beaches, providing practical demonstrations of the concepts being discussed.

Tickets for Music, Maestros & Masters are available for $25 at https://fau.edu, with students under age 16 admitted free when accompanied by a registered adult. The event represents Palm Beach Symphony's ongoing commitment to community engagement and education, building on their recognition by The Cultural Council for Palm Beach County with a 2020 Muse Award for Outstanding Community Engagement. This discussion comes at a time when understanding the holistic benefits of arts participation has become increasingly important for both individual wellness and community health.
