pgEdge Platform v25 Enhances Distributed PostgreSQL with Zero Downtime Upgrades and Advanced Conflict Resolution

pgEdge, Inc. has announced the availability of pgEdge Platform v25, building upon its industry-leading distributed PostgreSQL platform with substantial enhancements that strengthen its position as the only open-source distributed Postgres solution based on standard PostgreSQL. The latest release introduces true zero downtime capabilities for node additions and PostgreSQL version upgrades, allowing customers to maintain continuous write operations while expanding their clusters or performing major version updates through rolling updates rather than taking nodes offline.

Platform v25 features expanded automatic conflict resolution that handles a broader range of scenarios, including Insert-RowExists conflicts where two inserts with the same primary key automatically convert the second insert into an all-column update, and Delete-RowMissing scenarios where attempts to delete non-existent rows are automatically resolved according to desired behavior. The system now also supports configuration for checking non-null unique constraint violations with last-write-wins resolution. Performance improvements include overhauled exception handling that operates in-memory for order-of-magnitude speed improvements over traditional pgLogical methods, and enhanced lag monitoring calculated at target nodes for improved accuracy.

The platform introduces an interactive installation process that guides users through configuration file creation, making cluster setup significantly easier for first-time users while ensuring proper configuration. Backup and restore capabilities have been enhanced with pgBackrest integration as a default component, providing users with built-in backup configuration and strategy guidance without requiring external solutions. Substantial improvements to the Active Consistency Engine (ACE) deliver faster performance, improved flexibility, and expanded automation for detecting and resolving data discrepancies across nodes, particularly in large-scale datasets.

Phillip Merrick, Co-founder and CEO of pgEdge, emphasized that the platform continues to be built on standard open source PostgreSQL, with new features designed in collaboration with customers and partners to enhance distributed Postgres capabilities while improving usability for high availability and low latency requirements. The enhancements position pgEdge Platform v25 as a viable open-source distributed PostgreSQL alternative for legacy database workloads requiring multi-master capability, addressing critical enterprise needs for continuous operations and data consistency in distributed environments.
