Q.ANT Secures €62 Million to Pioneer Photonic Processing for AI and High-Performance Computing

Q.ANT, a leader in photonic processing, has announced a €62 million Series A financing round to further develop its energy-efficient photonic processors for AI and high-performance computing (HPC). This funding, among Europe's largest deep tech rounds, signals a shift towards more sustainable computing methods as traditional chip technologies face physical and energy consumption limits.

The company's photonic processors, based on Thin-Film Lithium Niobate (TFLN) technology, promise up to 30 times energy efficiency and 50 times performance improvement over current solutions. Q.ANT's innovation comes at a critical time, with data center energy use projected to exceed Japan's annual electricity consumption by 2026, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA).

Dr. Michael Förtsch, Q.ANT's founder and CEO, emphasized the company's vision to redefine computing by utilizing light instead of electricity. The investment will support scaling production, advancing next-generation processors, and expanding into the US market. Strategic additions to Q.ANT's advisory board, including semiconductor experts Hermann Hauser and Hermann Eul, will bolster the company's growth and commercialization efforts.

Christian Meermann of Cherry Ventures highlighted Q.ANT's potential to reduce data center operating costs while meeting the performance demands of next-generation AI and HPC. Andreas Unseld from UVC Partners praised Q.ANT's clear vision and its timely response to the need for sustainable AI infrastructure.

Q.ANT's Photonic Native Processing Server (NPS), now available for early access, is designed for easy integration into existing data centers, offering a sustainable alternative to traditional computing methods. With ambitions to become a foundational pillar of global AI systems by 2030, Q.ANT is poised to lead the transition to high-performance, energy-efficient computing.
