The formation of a Singles Social Group for Priority List members at The Grandview demonstrates how early community-building initiatives can ease the transition to senior living by providing social connections, practical support, and peace of mind for both residents and their families.

Sandy Winnick, an early Priority List member for The Grandview, an Erickson Senior Living community coming to Bethesda, Md., suggested creating a club for single members to gather and plan social events before moving in. The Singles Social Group now regularly attracts about 20 members per meeting, creating a welcoming environment for future residents to connect and share experiences.
Location played a significant role in Sandy's decision to join The Grandview's Priority List. Having lived in Bethesda for 30 years, she appreciated that another Erickson Senior Living community was coming to her familiar area. The refundable $1,000 deposit made joining an easy decision, and Priority List status provided exclusive access to informational events and construction updates before the general public. Priority List members also receive first choice of available residences, with Sandy selecting the Darcy floor plan after exploring options with Sales Director George Mishraky.
Planning and Moving Consultant Hannah Davis visited Sandy's home multiple times to assist with space planning, another benefit exclusive to Priority List members. This early planning gave Sandy ample time to decide what furniture to bring and what to donate or give to family and friends. The group has become a valuable resource for practical advice, with members sharing experiences about services like auction houses for selling antiques and strategies for downsizing.
The social connections extend beyond the Singles Social Group, with other clubs forming around books, computers, fitness, meditation, knitting, painting, and travel. Sandy looks forward to participating in the current events club, painting club, and morning exercise routines at the community's fitness center and outdoor trails. The simultaneous move-in timing creates an environment where everyone is eager to make new friends, reducing the burden on family members who appreciate knowing their loved ones will have strong social networks.
