In a blog post related to how checklists can make you reach your goals, adapted from his new book The Earned Life, the renowned leadership coach and bestselling author Marshall Goldsmith explores just how checklists can work for you.
Goldsmith writes: “Checking each box tells us whether we have alignment or not. Candidly ask yourself: Am I motivated to do this? Am I able? Do I understand how to harness my ability to get the job done? Do my past achievements make me confident that I can do this? Do I have support? Is there a marketplace that will appreciate the effort? Each of these factors must be aligned. Each one should enhance the other.” It’s important to have a plan, whatever one does.
Right now, the plan is to seize Russian assets as a result of its invasion of Ukraine. The most recent is the Italian police’s decision to seize Scheherezade last Friday in Marina di Carrara, Italy. Scheherezade is a 459-foot luxury superyacht. Its owner is supposed to be President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia. Police seizures of massive luxury yachts in European ports have become the most visible symbol of the West’s effort to crack down on Putin and his inner circle in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.But they are also particularly visible evidence of the Russian ruling class’s corruption. It’s almost as if the oligarchs had a checklist of what to do to amass tremendous wealth.
On a far less wide-ranging scale, personal checklists can do a lot to help move you toward your goals.
